Each software vendor (Microsoft, Adobe, Macromedia, Symantec, etc.) has their own particular educational software volume licensing program and minimum quantity requirements vary depending on the program and the products being purchased. Some manufacturers have a pure minimum quantity requirement while others have a "point system" whereby you can mix and match any combination of the vendor's products to meet the minimum point requirements.

Major Vendor Licensing Program Basics

Microsoft Open License Program
Microsoft has a flat minimum quantity requirement of 5 licenses for any combination of Microsoft products on the first license order. For example, your first order could be for four (4) Office 2003 Professional licenses and one (1) FrontPage 2003 license. CDROM Media kits are purchased separately from the license. Adobe Transactional License Program (TLP)
Adobe has a point system wherein each product is assigned a point value ranging between 50 and 400 points. You must purchase a minimum of 1,000 points worth of products on each order. For example, Adobe Acrobat Professional is a 150 point product while Adobe Photoshop is a 300 point product. Therefore, if you are just ordering Acrobat Professional, the minimum quantity order would be seven (Qty 7 x 150 Points = 1050 Points). You can mix and match different Adobe products to achieve the minimum point requirements. CDROM media kits are purchased separately from the licenses. Macromedia Education Volume License Program (EVLP)
Macromedia has a point system wherein each product is assigned a point value ranging between 1 and 4 points. You must purchase a minimum of 10 points worth of products on each order. For example, Macromedia Dreamweaver MX 2004 is a 2 point product while Studio MX is a 4 point product. Therefore, if you are just ordering Dreamweaver MX, the minimum order quantity would be five (Qty 5 x 2 Points = 10 Points). You can mix and match different Macromedia products to achieve the minimum point requirements. One CDROM media kits is included with each license order at no additional cost. Symantec Licensing Program
Symantec has a strait quantity based licensing program. There is minimum purchase quantity of 10 licenses per order. Symantec offer price breaks at quantities of 25, 100, 250, 500, and 2000. CDROm Media kits are purchased separately from the licenses.
